I recorded most of the footage with a Panasonic HC-V750 camera combined with a 0.75x wide conversion lens VW-W4907HGUK and an external windshielded Røde VideoMicro microphone. There was about 6 hours of source footage. The project took three and a half months to finish. I wrote previously about the pancake timeline and dynamic linking. Both worked well with the project. Premiere Pro slowed down considerably when I color corrected and stabilized the 50 fps project. The final render time was a whopping 21,5 hours. I rendered out the project master as image files in case there would be problems with the output. I imported the master image sequence to a new Premiere project and did many corrections to the master sequence by rendering out only the fixed parts from the main editing project and placing these fixed short image sequences on a higher track in the timeline that contained the master image sequence.

Music plays an important role in this travel doc. I wanted less narration and more of a visual experience supported by the music. It was a challenge to find and choose songs with the right feeling for each section. Free Music Archive and Musopen were the main music resources. I found several great artist and you can check them out through the soundtrack links above.

The map animations were inspired by the Indiana Jones movies. I used vector maps from Maptorian in After Effects. The advancing red line is a path drawn on a shape layer. Trim Paths feature was used to reveal the line. The map was overlaid on the footage with blend modes.
